Moshimo Vegan Wednesdays

Moshimo is a beautiful modern Japanese and sushi restaurant in the heart of Brighton located in Bartholomew Square. They’ve been known for quite a while as a great place for vegans but have really capitalised on that with Vegan Wednesdays.

Visitors get 25% off?vegan dishes on Wednesdays while members get 50% off which is amazing! It’s great for students and people who need to save money. I will definitely be going more often and taking advantage of this incredible discount.

MOSHIMO is big on plant-based eating, and we?re constantly increasing and adapting our vegan menu. Rather uniquely for a fish restaurant, we won the prestigious PETA ?Proggy? Award for the promotion of vegetarian food and every year, we hold the Great MOSHIMO Vegan Challenge, inviting Brighton?s best chefs to compete to create the best vegan food.

When they invited me and a friend to eat at their restaurant and try the best they have to offer I was ecstatic. I absolutely love Japanese food and hadn’t eaten at Moshimo since being vegan and not for some years.

I love the new modern feel the restaurant has now. The bento booths and traditional Japanese shoji walls that open up to the outside are so beautiful. It all gives such an authentic Japanese vibe. I can’t wait for the skylight building to be built so you can take a lift up and dine with a beautiful sea view, It’ll?be incredible!

The Food

At their recommendation, we went with some lovely sharing platters so we could really try lots of dishes. I love having little tastes of everything so you never got bored and have a smorgasbord of different textures and flavours, it was wonderful. I totally recommend doing this if you like the idea of tapas and trying lots of different things.

Drinks

We each started with freshly juiced apple & lemon and finished the meal with some green tea. I didn’t expect this juice to be so good but it was one of the best fresh juices I’ve ever had. It was sweet but not too sweet which I didn’t expect because of the lemon. It was like a healthy lemonade. Will definitely have this again. It’s perfect for those who don’t think like myself.

Appetisers

We had some edamame with salt for the table. Was the best edamame I’ve ever had actually, it tasted really fresh and was lovely warm with some salt.

Mains

First we had the incredible Bento Booth Sushi Boat filled to the brim with vegan sushi and dips. It looked stunning and I loved how many different types of sushi they had included for us.

Not only was the sushi plentiful and pleasing to the eye but it was the best and most authentic sushi I’ve ever had. Honestly the boat was insane and I want to eat like that every day. The duck sushi was my favourite hands down, I even liked the beetroot ones (if you know me you know I hate beetroot but am willing to try things that include it).

If you’re with good friends and people who don’t mind sharing like this it’s really fun and I totally recommend doing it, even just for the boat experience. It’s amazing!

A selection of our sushi beautifully served on bamboo boats, for our customers seated at our new ?Bento Booths.? Just let us know how much you want to spend, and let the chefs select the best sushi and sashimi for you, ?omakase-style?

After the sushi, I fancied something hot so we had another dish to share from the Ozara Sharing Platters part of the menu. As recommended we went with the?Yakiyasai platter for two. This looked beautiful too and featured my favourite gyoza. The beautifully marinated duck by vbites foods was once again featured in the heavenly veg skewers.

Mountains of kushi vegetable skewers, vegetable gyoza and sweet potato & peanut tofu balls

This hot platter was lovely and definitely one of my favourite parts of the meal. The fried tofu balls on the right were incredible and like Japanese mozzarella sticks. I am also a huge fan of the skewers, I loved the aubergine and rich tasty mock duck on these. The marinade they use is perfection. This is not to be missed!

Dessert

A beautiful chocolate pudding with hints of chocolate and fresh raspberries under the surface. A special for Vegan Wednesdays. It was such a decadent and perfect finish to our meal, really lovely.

Places never do a dessert for vegans do they so I love that they’ve adapted the chocolate mouse for vegans. I love this type of dessert and really enjoyed it.

We also finished with a pot of green tea. The tea was lovely and it was nice to finish the meal like we were at a traditional tea ceremony. I could drink tea like this every day.

The meal was absolutely incredible, me and Aaron who I took with me are still talking about it over a week later. We both agreed we have never eaten so well and it was the best meal we’ve ever had.? The staff were all lovely and attentive, the atmosphere was perfect and the food was unbelievable.

I will definitely be back and think I will be investing in their membership card to reap the many benefits it offers. At only ?20 you get a lot for your money like 50% off food, it’s well worth the investment.
